With the impending passage of President Joe Biden's $1.9 trillion "stimulus" bill, Scott's message could not be more timely.
He spoke in front of a Montana legislative committee recently and urged state legislators to take up the Convention of States Resolution to help control the federal government's out-of-control spending.
"Whether you're on the right or the left, the issue is the same: we have too much federal spending right now," he said. "And unfortunately, there is no restraint."
Huge majorities of Americans support amendments that force Congress to be fiscally responsible and limit the terms of office for federal officials. Congress has shown no willingness to take up either kind of amendments, so it's up to the people and the states.
Article V allows the states to come together in a Convention of States to propose constitutional amendments. These amendments can do what the federal government never will: limit Washington's power, spending, and influence.
