While collecting Convention of States petitions at a popular Independence Day event in Northern Virginia, COS Virginia Regional Captain Scott Camden stepped aside to share his COS story:
I came to COS in 2014 after retiring from 22 years of active-duty service as a marine officer. I saw that as an opportunity to continue my oath to defend and protect the Constitution.
The other thing, I was frustrated. I had voted for conservative candidates…nothing ever seemed to change.
What I like about Convention of States is that it gave us an opportunity to address structural issues such as federal overreach, overspending by the federal government, and term limits for federal officials…
In doing the research, Colonel George Mason on September 15, 1787, stood up and said: We’ve got to give the states also the power to propose amendments to the Constitution.
Once I saw the connection with federalism as it was originally intended, where it was the states who created the federal government, therefore it’s the states who have control of the federal government…
…we’ve got structural challenges that only Article V can provide a solution to.
