NEWS: South Carolina House passes Convention of States

Published in Blog on May 12, 2021 by Amy Hill

It's official!

The South Carolina House just passed a resolution calling for an Article V Convention of the States for proposing amendments to the U.S. Constitution. The subject matters under this call would be term limits and to rein in out-of-control federal spending and bureaucracy.

Thank you to all our grassroots volunteers across this great state and all the legislators that voted to protect and defend the Constitution by following the language and clear intent of Article V of the Constitution. Your dedication may well help save our constitutional republic and restore true federalism and proper balance between our state and federal governments.

This should not be a left or right or a blue or red movement. This is a clear movement to give the decision making power back to We the People.

We do not have to let a centralized government tear us apart due to their inability to stay within their constitutional box, unwillingness to let states make more local decisions, and not amicably governing the country.

We still have work to do in South Carolina in order to get the resolution passed in the Senate.

On behalf of all the great patriots on our South Carolina team of volunteers and supporters, I would encourage everyone to continue to have conversations in your local communities about how We the People can restore true federalism to this country through the proper use of Article V, legally pushing back against an ever-encroaching federal government (regardless of who is in charge), and educating ourselves and others on the principles this country was founded.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:

Thank you so much for your service to the people of our district.
