The people of South Dakota love their freedom to get out and do what they love. One of the events many citizens have been able to enjoy this summer is a longtime tradition: the great sport of rodeo.
The Oelrichs Last Stampede took place mid-September and hosted a spike in new Convention of States supporters. This local area is home to the reigning Miss Rodeo America, who was one the contestants that weekend.
Patriots are not hard to find near an arena, and several people commented that they were thankful to see our COS team there doing something to help save our country and our liberties.
"Convention of States is the answer to fix the problem in Washington, and so many people agree once they hear about this grassroots movement," said Velva Fitzgerald, State Information Analyst for COS South Dakota. "They saw our booth setup, and many came over to sign the petition."
More than 30 people gathered at the Convention of States booth to join the growing list of supporters by signing COS petitions. This is an example of our country's desire to reduce government control in our daily lives. That's something our local representatives in South Dakota understand.
South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has been in the grand entry at several rodeos in our great state, carrying the American flag for the national anthem. This sport stands as a symbol of freedom and traditional values.
The Oelrichs rodeo centered around time to be with family and friends where they love this country and the flag. There was a local 4-H Club selling concessions, and a band played after the rodeo for the community and contestants to enjoy time together.
