Rick Santorum challenges state legislators: "How dare you not call a Convention of States"

Published in Blog on December 08, 2021 by Article V Patriot

Sen. Rick Santorum has never been afraid to speak the truth.

During a recent meeting with hundreds of state legislators, he did exactly that.

He explain how he was initially skeptical about the Convention of States movement, but as he continued to read and learn, he became convinced that it's the only way to get our country back on track.

Then, he challenged the state legislators to use their constitutional authority given to them in Article V and respond to the tyranny of Washington, D.C.

"As state legislators, you have the ability to do more to change Washington, D.C., than any member of Congress or even the president. Think about the opportunity you have, right now, to do something about that at a time when hope is so remote," he said. "This is the opportunity the Founders gave you. They gave you the power to save this country."

"With all due respect, how dare you not try. How dare you in the face of what's going on in this country that you all know in your guts is ruinous of this great country. How dare you, when you have the opportunity to use what the Founders gave you as the failsafe. You are the last line," he continued. "We've gotta get this done. Not ten years from now. Now. Give people hope."

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:

Thank you so much for your service to the people of our district.
