Republicans and Democrats stop arguing just long enough to approve more crushing debt [satire]

Published in Blog on July 27, 2020 by Article V Patriot

Those familiar with the Babylon Bee know that sometimes their satirical headlines and articles are truer than anything you'll read in the corporate media.

This is one of those articles.

Headlined "Democrats, Republicans Stop Fighting Just Long Enough To Approve Even More Crushing Debt," the piece takes a devastating shot at our "leaders" in D.C. who don't agree on anything -- except spending our money.

In a rare moment of bipartisan unity, Democrats and Republicans came together just long enough to approve spending even more money we don't have, plunging the nation into even more crushing debt.

"There are things we disagree on," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in an address, flanked by Senator Mitch McConnell and President Donald Trump. "We don't agree on exactly how much money to take away from you, for instance. We don't agree on exactly how many foreign countries to bomb at a given time. We don't even agree on exactly how much the government should interfere in your personal decisions."

"But it's really important," she continued, "for us to come together to approve the borrowing of trillions of dollars your grandkids will have to pay back."

It's funny (and sad) because it's so, so true. The politicians in our nation's capital don't care about racking up trillions of dollars in debt that our children and grandchildren will have to pay back. The $26 trillion debt has grown by trillions even in the last few years, and neither party has shown any interest in scaling back our spending.

If Congress won't act, the American people will. When we emerge from this pandemic, we need to make sure we're better financially prepared for the next national crisis. The only way to force Congress's hand is by calling an Article V Convention of States.

A Convention of States has the power to propose constitutional amendments that mandate a balanced budget, cap spending, and limit taxation (among other things). With this complete package of amendments in place, Congress will have no choice but to make the tough spending decisions for the good of future generations.

The best part? Congress has virtually no role in the process. It's entirely controlled by the states, where We the People can have a real voice in politics.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
