Rep. Dittrich: "Politicians are like laundry. They get stinky when they sit around too long."

Most politicians get into "public service" for the money, power, and influence. Others, like Wisconsin State Rep. Barbara Dittrich, understand that their role is temporary. They strive to serve their constituents while they're in office, but they know that politics isn't a career.

"I believe that we need term limits," she said on the floor of the Wisconsin House. "Just like laundry, we get stinky when we sit around a little too long."

"I wholeheartedly agree in this resolution," she continued, voicing support for the Convention of States resolution. "I am excited about limiting the size and scope of our government because we really overreach on a lot of this. The federal government needs to stay in issues that are in their jurisdiction and leave the states alone."

Thanks in part to Rep. Dittrich's support, the Wisconsin House passed our resolution 60-38!

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention.
