For any grassroots effort attempting to effect truly significant change in politics, half of the battle is merely showing up.
That is not a problem for the North Carolina Convention of States Action team. Just ask Convention of States Action senior vice president for legislative affairs Rita Peters:
“Our North Carolina Convention of States Action team has proven itself to be a major player in the state's politics. They show up at the legislature, they show up at town hall meetings back in their districts, and most importantly, they show up big on Election Day. And then they keep showing up. They don't go away.”
On May 15, COS volunteers, supporters, and leaders will show up at Halifax Mall at 300 N. Salisbury Street in Raleigh beginning at 11:00 a.m. ET to advance the momentum built by the North Carolina team and encourage legislators to make North Carolina the 20th state in the union to pass an Article V resolution.
Halifax Mall is the green space adjacent to the legislative complex in Raleigh.
The resolution, formally known as House Joint Resolution 235, is currently pending in the Senate Committee on Rules and Operations of the Senate. The North Carolina House has already passed an Article V resolution.
COSA co-founders Mark Meckler and Michael Farris, and COSA senior advisor and former U.S. senator Rick Santorum are among the scheduled speakers at the rally in Raleigh. The event will last between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.
“North Carolina is at the top of our priority list, that’s why I’ll be at the rally on May 15,” said Meckler.
“We’ve passed in the House, now we just need one more push to get it across the line in the Senate. I have faith in the North Carolina Senate team, led by our sponsor, Sen. [Timothy] Moffitt, to get it done, and done early in the session.”
The effectiveness of the North Carolina team was demonstrated in the recent legislative primary elections, where they showed up all over the state.
Members of the team campaigned in 16 statewide primary races for candidates who support an Article V application and were successful in 14 of the races. In three “open seat” House districts and one Senate district, the COS-endorsed candidates have advanced to the general election.
“I believe that with all the time and effort they have put in over the years, this is the year that the North Carolina Senate will heed the voice of the people and pass our Convention of States application that has already been passed by the House,” said Peters.
Show your support for an Article V convention and the dedicated and successful North Carolina team by showing up on May 15 at Halifax Mall in Raleigh.
See you at 11:00 a.m. ET sharp!
