To slightly alter the lyrics of the late, great Wilbert Harrison's #1 Billboard hit from 1959 "Kansas City" to make them apropos to Convention of States:
"We're going to Topeka, Kansas; Topeka, Kansas, here we come"
Topeka it is once again, where a public hearing in the Kansas House Committee on Federal and State Affairs is scheduled to convene on March 17 at 10:00 a.m. ET/9:00 a.m. CT, during which testimony regarding the COS Resolution -- Senate Concurrent Resolution 1604 -- will be heard. Convention of States Action senior advisor and co-founder Michael Farris is expected to testify remotely.
You can watch it all unfold with real time coverage plus reaction on COS LIVE beginning at 10:00 ET/9:00 CT:
Kansas has completed half of the journey toward becoming the 20th state in the union to call for a limited-purpose Article V convention that will meet to propose amendments to place permanent restraints upon the federal government.
On February 27, the Kansas Senate made history by approving SCR 1604 by a vote of 29-11, meeting the state's constitutional requirement that Article V applications pass with a two-thirds supermajority in each legislative chamber.
While there is pending litigation over the constitutionality of that requirement, the Kansas team forged ahead with a new resolution, determined to attain the supermajority.
COS Kansas has been working toward this moment for the last decade and is primed for another round of eloquent and persuasive testimony in favor of the COS resolution, which will support the monumental work they have done to increase support among members of the Kansas House. Watch this important hearing on COS LIVE beginning at 10:00 ET/9:00 CT.
Topeka, here we come!
