Progress for Convention of States in Illinois

In 2020 support for the Convention of States in Illinois grew at almost four times the speed of other states.

Illinois went from 14 to 52 District Captains in the past year. Rep. Brad Halbrook has filed the COS as a joint resolution in the Illinois House, and it currently has three co-sponsors.

COS Illinois State Director David Winters and the state team continue relentlessly building the grassroots in Illinois, including multiple District Captains in each district. 

At a recent meeting in northern Illinois, Regional Director Monica Sellers joined the state team to discuss progress, how to respond to opposition to the COS resolution, and how to continue growing support across the state for the movement. Members of the grassroots across the state talked about how they are working to build support for COS. 

The tyranny of the past year by the Governor of Illinois made the people of the state hunger to decide for themselves again how they live their lives.

Because of this, support for Convention of States in Illinois has surged.

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention.
