The 2020 election has been one of the most contentious in our nation's history. President Trump is still challenging the results while Joe Biden and the mainstream media insist the election is over.
But we care more about what you think than what our national politicians think. That's why we launched polls on our social media and email lists to get your thoughts: do you think the election was legitimate and what should President Trump do from here?
Here were the results:
As you can see, there was consensus on both questions. Seventy-six percent of respondents have very little confidence in the legitimacy of the election, and 52% believe that Trump should only concede when he has exhausted every legal option.
These results are obviously discouraging for the future of our democracy. As the most civically engaged patriots in the nation, Convention of States volunteers and supporters have a good sense of how elections work and what makes them legitimate. When over three-quarters of these individuals don't have confidence in the election, our nation is in trouble.
Fortunately, there is good news. Convention of States volunteers are incredibly active in their state legislatures, where they're working to call the first-ever Article V Convention of States. As state legislatures work to make our elections freer and fairer, our volunteers will be on the front lines of those fights.
