Gallup has uncovered a troubling trend among a significant minority of Americans.
According to a recent poll, 53 million Americans -- 57 percent of Democrats -- have a positive view of socialism. The rise of politicians like Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has catapulted this controversial economic structure onto the national stage, and some Americans have been swallowing the act, hook, line, and sinker.
The problem with socialism isn’t just that it doesn’t work -- history has proven that again and again. The problem is that it takes as its foundational principle the idea that the government knows best. Private citizens can’t be trusted with the means of production, and their freedoms should therefore be limited.
The fact that over 50 million Americans would rather be government servants than free citizens indicates that the messages from big-government elitists are gaining traction. But liberty-loving patriots must do more than fight these ideas in their local communities -- they must work to ensure that liberty is protected for future generations.
An Article V Convention of States can propose constitutional amendments that enshrine in our founding document the idea that the federal government has narrow, limited powers. These amendments can explicitly limit the size, scope, and jurisdiction of federal power, and be written with activist Supreme Court justices in mind.
Socialism is only an option because the Courts have expanded federal power. After the amendments proposed at a Convention of States are ratified, socialism will never again be considered on a national level.
