There's a well-organized push in D.C. to seize control of the healthcare industry. Their main strategy is the same as that of all power-hungry politicians: release the good, hide the bad.
They're happy to explain how government-run healthcare would be "free." How it would be accessible to "all Americans" and be an "investment in the future."
But they never explain the costs. They don't mention that nationalized healthcare would increase taxes and reduce quality of care. That's likely because they know that the American people won't support these policies if they know the truth.
Now a new poll has proven exactly that. According to The Center Square:
Most Americans oppose a Medicare for All program once they understand what it means and how much it would cost, a Health Tracking poll conducted by the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) reveals.
The poll found that a majority of people – 56 percent – favor a Medicare for All (M4A) single-payer healthcare system when no details about how much it would cost are provided.
A larger majority, 77 percent, expressed support for incremental changes to the health care system like allowing for the option of a Medicare buy-in program for adults between ages 50 and 64. Slightly less, 75 percent, support Medicaid buy-in plans for individuals who don’t have health coverage through their employer. Both the Medicare and Medicaid buy-in plans received 69 and 64 percent support from Republicans, respectively. These numbers drop dramatically when respondents are given information on what implementing M4A would cost.
When asked if support for M4A included the requirement to eliminate all private health insurance and increase taxes, only 37 percent of respondents supported it. When asked if implementing M4A would directly cause some medical treatments and tests to be delayed, only 26 percent approved.
The greatest criticism of M4A was respondents’ concern that it would lead to delays in medical tests and treatments, the KFF notes.
The American people haven't lost their sense of freedom and their independent spirit. But in today's breakneck media climate, many are falling for the soundbites from national "leaders" peddling free stuff for all.
That's why we need to call an Article V Convention of States. A Convention of States can propose constitutional amendments that prohibit the federal takeover of industries like healthcare.
It can do this by proposing constitutional amendments that return D.C. to its constitutional box. Clarifying clauses like the General Welfare Clause and the Commerce Clause can reaffirm the small, limited role the federal government was intended to play in American life.
With amendments like these in place, D.C. politicians won't be able to gain power by pulling the wool over the eyes of the American people.
