Please, Consider Policy NOT Personality

Published in Blog on September 03, 2024 by Cynthia Kisby

In theory, Convention of States does not support or reject specific policies. What we do propose is a return to constitutional integrity as demonstrated by separation of powers between executive, judicial, and congressional branches of government. We also believe in a republic form of government where States maintain sovereignty and are not controlled through finances or regulations by a central federal bureaucracy.

Our country was designed to function properly only with an awake moral citizenry and a free press. So COS encourages informed citizens to participate in governing and decision making. We believe that a return to America's founding principles requires less federal spending and less federal control, and term limits for elected officials. We want citizens to engage in their communities and call out bad behavior.

During this election season please do look back on administrative policies and weigh the costs or benefits of these actions.

Consider the outcomes of these policies:

  • Executive orders banning fossil fuel production have raised the price of gas and every related petroleum product, contributing to inflation.
  • Infrastructure bill spending on green subsidies forced a transition to electric vehicles which also contributes to inflation and stifles the free-market economy.
  • Failure to secure US borders has allowed 8 to10 million illegals to consume taxpayer funds for travel, housing, education, and healthcare.
  • Defunding police and homeless vagrants needs supersede tax-paying citizens’ rights to security and law enforcement.
  • Decriminalizing felonies to misdemeanors along with bail reform means no detention or prosecution, so it is OK to shoplift in California.  In Minneapolis 1,000 buildings were burned and almost all misdemeanor charges were dismissed
  • Unconstitutional student loan forgiveness disproportionately favors some citizens and encourages expectations for future irresponsibility.
  • International policies of appeasement, removal of economic sanctions on Iran, the disorganized withdrawal from Afghanistan, reduced military spending, and confused messages to allies encourage further aggression and reduce national security.
  • Government control of information and social media messaging that favors only liberal science and cancels debate, discussion, or argument is an affront to the first amendment and the foundation of tyranny.

No doubt there are lies and distortions coming from both political parties and they share equally in our problems. Washington bureaucrats clearly will not change the self-serving system that makes them rich.

Citizens must wake up and exercise the self-governance our founders fought for. In looking for ways to try to get this republic back on a truly democratic path, consider which policies strengthen the structure that made this country free, strong, and prosperous. The benefit of calling an Article V Convention of States is to debate amendments that maintain separation of powers and our God-given liberties.

Your country needs your participation now, or we will go the way of other historical failed civilizations.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
