Pelosi, Schumer file resolution to ram through Biden's $2 trillion COVID "relief" package

Published in Blog on February 02, 2021 by Article V Patriot

With the Senate locked in a 50-50 tie, neither Democrats nor Republicans can claim that they have a mandate from the American people. But that isn't stopping Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer and Representative Nancy Pelosi from acting like they have a supermajority in Congress.

Both legislators just filed a resolution that will allow them to ram through President Joe Biden's $2 trillion COVID-19 "relief" package.

The move comes just one day after Biden met with Republicans to supposedly promote "unity" and "bipartisanship." But while Biden preaches working across party lines, his party is working to accomplish his agenda without GOP approval.

The resolutions filed by Pelosi and Schumer will allow them to pass Biden's plan on a simple majority in the Senate rather than the 60 votes they would need to pass a standard piece of legislation. It's the same way they passed Obamacare, and it's called "budget reconciliation."

“Congress has a responsibility to quickly deliver immediate comprehensive relief to the American people hurting from COVID-19 ,” said Pelosi and Schumer in a statement. “The cost of inaction is high and growing, and the time for decisive action is now. With this budget resolution, the Democratic Congress is paving the way for the landmark Biden-Harris coronavirus package that will crush the virus and deliver real relief to families and communities in need. We are hopeful that Republicans will work in a bipartisan manner to support assistance for their communities, but the American people cannot afford any more delays and the Congress must act to prevent more needless suffering.”

This is a far cry from deliberative democracy or republican ideals. This is the Democrats imposing their will on the American people, and many of the policies in their bill will hurt -- not help -- struggling Americans.

To take just one example, the $15 minimum wage imposed by the bill would decimate American small businesses who have already been harmed by the COVID-19 lockdowns. Suddenly requiring employers to pay all their employees $15/hour will force many out of business, which will destroy millions of jobs and leave even more people dependent on the government.

This, of course, is exactly what big-government politicians want. They want the American people to be reliant on the government dole, and they'll use any and all means at their disposal to make that happen -- including ramming through a massive spending bill.

Enough is enough. We the People must regain control of the federal government, but we won't do it from inside Washington. The best way to restore self-governance in our country isn't by giving new or different powers to the federal government -- it's by stripping federal power and returning that power to the states.

An Article V Convention of States is called and controlled by the states and has the power to propose constitutional amendments. These amendments can limit the size and power of the federal government and limit Congress' tax-and-spend power. These amendments can also limit the terms of office for federal officials, which would have force Pelosi and Schumer out of office in the 1990s.

A Convention of States is the Founders' solution to federal overreach, and it's high time we used it. It takes 34 states to call a Convention, and 15 are on board right now. If you want to make your state number 16, sign the petition below!

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
