Today we celebrate George Washington's birthday. Our nation's first president was one of the heroes of the War for Independence along with a true statesmen -- the likes of which are few and far between today in the city that bears his name.
Most people know about Washington's crossing the Delaware and his famous Farewell Address, but did you know that he also commented on the Convention of States option in Article V of the Constitution?
We put together a video highlighting Washington's statements along with those from other Founding Fathers and American heroes.
Check it out!
Washington said, "If, in the opinion of the people, the distribution or modification of the constitutional powers be in any particular wrong, let it be corrected by an amendment in the way which the Constitution designates."
Notice that Washington doesn't say, "In the opinion of Congress." He knew that one day the Constitution might need to be amended by the people's representatives in the states, and he voted in favor of adding the Convention of States option to Article V.
Now you have the chance to be a part of the solution that Washington envisioned. Join the Convention of States team in your state to support the nationwide grassroots movement to limit the power of the federal government with an Article V Convention.
