On February 24, New Hampshire state representative Michael Moffett published an op-ed piece in the online publication GraniteGrok.com that argues in favor of an Article V convention to debate and propose amendments to the Constitution that will reduce the size and scope of the federal government.
Rep. Moffett compares our current ship of state to the doomed ship Titanic, and posits that an Article V convention will go far in restoring fiscal sanity and guardrails by considering an amendment or amendments that will address runaway federal spending.
Interestingly enough, Rep. Moffett also discusses his initial opposition to an Article V convention and, indeed, and his past record of voting against the Convention of States resolution in the New Hampshire General Court.
He admits that his reluctance was fueled by arguments made by the opposition, but credits his change of heart to learning more about Article V as time has passed. His edification is no doubt due in large part to the efforts made by the NH COS team in meetings, calls, emails, and testimony.
Rep. Moffett makes a compelling case and cogently addresses opposition arguments against calling an Article V convention. His piece is well worth your time, and you can access it here.
