When the COVID-19 virus reached American shores in late 2019, early 2020, many Americans understandably turned to the government for answers.
Should we stay at home?
Should we wear masks?
How deadly is this virus?
How long will the lockdowns last?
But as we've pointed out many times, government can't solve large, complicated problems. One need only look at virtually any federal, state, or local bureaucracy to see that more often than not, the government's "solution" is less efficient, more wasteful, and more corrupt than if the American people are left to their own devices.
The latest example comes courtesy of Johns Hopkins University, where researchers found that COVID-19 lockdowns had virtually no effect on the spread of the virus.
"While this meta-analysis concludes that lockdowns have had little to no public health effects, they have imposed enormous economic and social costs where they have been adopted," the researchers wrote. "In consequence, lockdown policies are ill-founded and should be rejected as a pandemic policy instrument."
Lockdowns may have been reasonable in the first weeks of the pandemic (remember "two weeks to slow the spread"?), but once the scientific community learned more about the virus, the policy should have been abandoned. With COVID primarily targeting the elderly and the unhealthy, politicians should have allowed healthy Americans to live their lives while protecting the vulnerable.
Instead, governments did what governments always do: they doubled-down on bad policies. They maintained lockdowns, shut down businesses, closed schools, persecuted churches, and decimated communities.
Now, we have proof of what Americans have always suspected. These policies were a total and complete failure.
"Experts" in government don't have enough integrity to make good decisions when millions of lives will be affected. They certainly don't have enough integrity to make good decisions for you and your family.
That's why over five million Americans and 17 states have joined the Convention of States movement. An Article V Convention of States can limit the power, scope, and jurisdiction of the federal government to ensure that Washington bureaucrats no longer have the power to run our lives.
These amendments can get the feds out of healthcare, energy, the environment, education, and a host of other sectors they have no business controlling. With this complete package of amendments in place, the American people will once again be free to live their lives as they see fit.
