New Poll: Socialism in public schools "most upsetting" issue for Americans

Published in Blog on September 23, 2021 by Article V Patriot

One issue has more Americans worried than any other, and it isn't the economy, immigration, or gun control.

According to a brand new poll from Convention of States Action and the Trafalgar Group, more Americans are upset about socialism being taught in public schools than any other issue facing our country.

“Politicians have vastly underestimated the extent to which parents are charged up about wokeness in education. Everywhere we go across America, people are absolutely furious. There are lots of issues that regular folks don’t care about, but when you mess with someone’s kids and their schools, you strike at the very heart of what Americans care about the most, ” said Mark Meckler, President of Convention of States Action. “Americans love America, and they want their children to be supported by a system that teaches those values. If schools and educators think they can stay on their current socialist trajectory, they are sadly mistaken.”

Is it any wonder? Socialism cuts at the heart of what has made this nation great. Rather than foster a spirit of independence, hard work, and courage, socialism produces serfs dependent on government handouts. It discourages innovation by taxing businesses out of existence, and it discourages work by sending checks to people in return for nothing.

In the end, the socialist road always leads to one place: poverty. As Mark Meckler told Socialist Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, socialist policies drive out businesses that create jobs and value and attract those who can't survive apart from government subsidies. If we try to rely on the government to run our economy, we can expect that economy to be run into the ground.

We must stop the federal government from imposing a socialist dogma in our public schools before it's too late. Biden's Department of Education would love nothing more than to force its radical ideology on all American school children, and by that point, no amount of school board protests will fix the problem.

We need a long-term solution, and we've found it in Article V of the Constitution.

Article V allows the states to call a Convention of States for the purpose of proposing constitutional amendments. These amendments can limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, restricting or eliminating dozens of agencies -- including the Department of Education.

Socialist ideas will always be among us. The First Amendment is supposed to ensure that all Americans can speak their mind, no matter how bad their ideas are. But we shouldn't be allowing our public schools to indoctrinate our kids with anti-American ideas at the behest of the federal government. Only a Convention of States can permanently end that threat, and it's time we used the Founders' tool to stop federal overreach.

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
