When news broke that the Biden administration was in negotiations with illegal immigrants to pay them $450,000 for "emotional trauma" after being separated from their children at the border, Americans were incensed.
Why, they wondered, would we spend taxpayer money paying off illegal immigrants? Why would we consider paying them more than we pay veterans, Gold Star families, and 9/11 victims?
The president has tried to walk back the report, but his excuses haven't been enough to convince the American people.
According to a new poll from Convention of States Action and the Trafalgar Group, 67% of voters disapprove of paying illegal immigrants $450,000. In addition, 54.7% of American voters believe President Biden should close the southern border until a solution is reached to deal with the crises of migrant caravans, human trafficking, and drug smuggling.
"For the good of the nation and for the good for their own party, the left needs to reverse course immediately and get back to common sense," said Mark Meckler, President of Convention of States Action. "Halting ridiculous payments to criminals who violated our laws and came here illegally would be a good start, and stopping more of those people from illegally crossing would be another one."

Enough is enough. The American people are tired of paying (literally and figuratively) for the terrible policies coming from Washington. It's time to get our county on a strong financial footing, and we can do just that with an Article V Convention of States.
A Convention of States is called and controlled by the states and has the power to propose constitutional amendments that force Congress to be fiscally responsible. If Congress was required to balance the budget every year without raising taxes, you can bet they wouldn't consider spending millions of dollars paying off illegal immigrants.
