A recent poll from Gallup shows that Americans have had enough of our country's top two political parties.
According to the survey, significantly more U.S. adults continued to identify as political independents (42%) in 2018 than as either Democrats (30%) or Republicans (26%). At least four in 10 Americans have been political independents in seven of the past eight years, including a record-high 43% in 2014.
Both Democrats and Republicans have betrayed the trust of the American people. Under both parties, the national debt has skyrocketed, federal overreach has continued to expand, and career politicians have gotten in bed with lobbyists and special interest groups.
But there is hope. If Americans can't find the solutions to our problems in the two big political parties, they'll start to look elsewhere -- like in Article V of the Constitution.
Since the Convention of States Project's founding in 2013, over 4.1 million Americans have voiced their support for our mission to limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government.
We have volunteer teams in all 50 states, and we've secured endorsements from some of the most influential men and women in the nation.
We've seen such growth because Americans are realizing that neither party can be trusted with the future of our country.
Fortunately, the Founders gave the people and the states the authority to propose constitutional amendments at a Convention of States. These amendments can fix our broken system in DC by mandating term limits, imposing fiscal restraints, and limiting the power of the federal government.
A Convention of States is the best non-partisan solution because it doesn't rely on either party for success. It only relies on the ingenuity, resilience, and self-governance of the American people.
