The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released a report this month that highlights, once again, the massive negative consequences of a nationalized, single-payer healthcare system.
But while most critics focus on the cost (how will we pay for such a system?), the CBO also notes how a healthcare system controlled by the federal government would fail to meet the needs of the American people:
Because the public plan would provide a specified set of health care services to everyone eligible, participants would not have a choice of insurer or health benefits. Compared with the options available under the current system, the benefits provided by the public plan might not address the needs of some people. For example, under the current system, young and healthy people might prefer not to purchase any coverage, or they might prefer to purchase coverage with high deductibles or fewer benefits. And, unlike a system with competing private insurers, the public plan might not be as quick to meet patients’ needs, such as covering new treatments.
Don't be fooled by the calm bureaucrateze. The CBO describes in this paragraph a massive loss of freedom within the United States.
Under our current system, if a man or a woman anticipates needing a certain level of coverage, that person can purchase from a wide range of options. That way, when they need medical care, they know that they can get that care without paying massive out-of-pocket expenses.
Under Medicare-for-all, on the other hand, that person would be out of luck. If they need a surgery that isn't covered, they'd be forced to deal with a federal bureaucratic structure that makes the IRS look like a rural town's DMV. Instead of having the freedom to make the best decisions for themselves and their families, an American under nationalized healthcare will be forced to take what the feds give them -- whether they like it or not.
That's why we need to call an Article V Convention of States before it's too late. A Convention of States is called and controlled by the states and can propose constitutional amendments that limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government. These amendments can clarify the limited role of the feds in American life, and expressly deny them the ability to legislate on issues like healthcare.
The American people are on a path to willingly give up their freedoms in exchange for handouts from an all-powerful federal government. Liberty-loving patriots need to step in before that happens.
