Remember when the Federal Bureau of Investigation raided former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence because he allegedly possessed classified documents?
And then remember how Joe Biden vehemently denied having played any part in ordering the raid?
“I didn't have any advance notice,” he insisted. “None. Not one single bit."
Do you further remember how, a few weeks later, the FBI found a bevy of classified documents tucked away in Mr. Biden’s former office and private garage?
Remember how the former was a big deal and the latter was not? Remember how possession of classified documents made Trump — in the words of Biden — “totally irresponsible,” but did not do the same to Biden himself?
It’s no surprise a majority of Americans now believe the U.S. has a two-tiered system of justice based on political affiliation.
“What we’re seeing reflected strongly in these numbers is the sentiment that ‘There is no equal justice in America’ has become an almost universally-held opinion,” said Mark Meckler, President Convention of States. But it’s not just opinion, it’s fact. And it’s a dangerous fact in our Constitutional Republic, one which requires mostly voluntary compliance with the rule of law to succeed. In a system where those in government get away with virtually anything, why should anyone follow the law? Until public servants are once again held accountable for their misdeeds, the distrust of and disdain for government officials will continue to grow in a dangerous manner.”
To make matters worse, a new report from America First Legal (AFL) revealed that (no surprise here) Biden may have lied when he claimed he “didn't have any advance notice” about the FBI raid on Trump’s home.
Through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), which “gives any person the right to request access to records of the executive branch of the U.S. Government,” AFL uncovered emails reportedly exposing the Biden administration’s involvement in the raid.
“The evidence suggests that the ostensibly nonpartisan National Archives and Records Administration misled Congress about the Biden White House’s responsibility for the FBI’s raid of former President Trump’s home,” asserted Reed D. Rubinstein, AFL’s director of oversight and investigations. “The evidence further suggests that Biden officials in the Executive Office of the President and the Department of Justice unlawfully abused their power and then lied about it to the American people. This government, it seems, acknowledges no limits on its power to harass, intimidate, and silence its political opponents.”
As Mark Meckler noted, the sentiment that equal justice in America is dead is pervasive. As Trump is hounded for an alleged crime well past the statute of limitations, his successor is meanwhile running roughshod over any constitutional limitation on his power, persecuting political opponents, and lying about all of it.
Washington D.C. is hopelessly broken, and no one person can fix it. We cannot keep relying on the “right people” to turn the ship around.
We need a solution as big as the problem.
With an Article V convention, the American people, through their state legislatures, can propose constitutional amendments limiting the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, imposing fiscal restraints, and placing term limits on federal officials. After being passed out of convention, amendments would then come back to the states for ratification before going into effect. The process is safe, peaceful, and straight from the Constitution.
If we’re ever going to get out of this mess, we need to rein in the federal government and legally bar our political “betters” from their politicized abuses of justice. The only way to do it is through an Article V convention.
