Radicals on the far left often accuse Republicans of fomenting violence. Even though President Trump called on his January 6 supporters to "peacefully" protest, leftists paint the former president and all of his supporters as crazy, violent extremists.
They should perhaps start looking to their own side of the aisle.
In a recent segment on MSNBC, host Tiffany Cross said that people on the political left needed to “pick up a weapon and get involved” in “the war” for American democracy, which she suggested was under threat by Republicans.

Wait: aren't liberals constantly accusing conservatives of encouraging violence with their rhetoric?

Cross argues she wasn't actually calling for violence, but she certainly wouldn't be the first to toe the line between aggressive and violent rhetoric.
Reps. Maxine Waters and Nancy Pelosi called for "uprisings" across the country in 2018, and Waters went so far as to call for violence against Republican congresspeople.
"The American people have put up with this president long enough," she said. "If you see anybody from that cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd. You push back on them. And you tell them they are not welcome, anymore, anywhere."
And who can forget the summer of 2020, when leftist mobs descended on major American cities and caused billions of dollars worth of damage and dozens of deaths?
Here's the truth: rational, everyday Americans from both sides of the aisle want to live their lives in peace. They don't want violence, and they're concerned that extremists are ratcheting up the rhetoric until it spills over into actual war.
Fortunately, the Founders gave us a solution to exactly this problem. Article V of the Constitution is the only permanent and peaceful way to limit the power of the federal government and cool tensions in our country.
Much of that political tension is caused by the all-powerful government in Washington. Because the president, Congress, and the Supreme Court can change the face of our country in a single day, Americans from both sides are concerned about the other side taking over. They're so concerned, in fact, that they're willing to consider violence to keep the other side from winning.
We're not talking about crazies like Tiffany Cross. We're talking about normal, hardworking Americans who fear that the escalating tensions in our country will result in actual violence.
An Article V Convention of States can deescalate that tension by returning decision-making power where it belongs: with the states and the people. By proposing constitutional amendments that limit federal power, a Convention of States can put everyday Americans back in control of their country's future. That way, they can stop worrying about the next "civil war" and get back to the hard work of local self-governance.
