Mistakes are inevitable, but refusing to learn is a choice

Published in Blog on May 27, 2020 by Warren Wheeler

Here’s what two liberty-loving patriots have suggested we learn from the nation’s response to COVID-19.

Star Parker: The solution is the Constitution

The Founders designed and gave us a very good operating manual for how to run things. It's called the Constitution. We've witnessed chaos through this crisis between mayors, governors and the federal government regarding who is responsible for doing what. This is the direct result of court decisions over the course of many years obfuscating the clarity of the Constitution as originally drafted regarding the limited powers of the federal government.

Dinesh D’Souza: Invisible enemies pave the way to tyranny

The virus is a little bit like climate change. It’s an invisible enemy. (Politicians) are able to create an apocalyptic sense that may or may not be warranted. No one's saying that the virus is imaginary. The virus is real. But the extent of the damage, the trade-offs involved, how much of our freedom we should we be willing to chuck in order to protect ourselves—these are all very legitimate questions. Part of the worrisome aspect of this (crisis) is the stifling of even honest debate. On digital media if you go out of bounds as far as the World Health Organization is concerned, they ban you (and) remove your videos. This is very unhealthy and shows us that (it’s) about curtailing your basic liberties. It's remarkable to see…the liberties that are under assault…free speech, religious freedom, freedom of assembly, freedom against surveillance, in other words privacy (and) unreasonable search and seizure—drones overhead, people informing on their brother, their father, their neighbor. This kind of stuff is right out of George Orwell. The fact that we don't see the chilling parallels, I think, is itself very indicative.

The Article V Convention of States for which we are fighting will address the federal overreach that Star Parker rightly ascribes to misguided judicial rulings.

It will reestablish conditions that enable citizens to protect their cherished, constitutionally-guaranteed liberties. As Dinesh D’Souza states, these liberties are under direct assault from lockdown extremists.

At Convention of States Action, we are mobilizing a grassroots army that will restore the Framers’ constitutional bulwarks against Orwellian totalitarianism.

If you have not yet joined us, why not? If you have, are you volunteering your time and energy to this fight? If not, why not?

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
