Michigan set to vote on Convention of States!

Published in Blog on June 23, 2020 by Article V Patriot

We’ve just received word -- a Michigan senate committee is set to consider the Convention of States Resolution this Thursday, June 25th, and we need your help!

The Senate Committee on Government Operations just scheduled our resolution for its Thursday hearing, and we expect the vote to be close.

The hearing will begin at 9:00AM CT, and our resolution is the only thing on the agenda. Committee Chairman Sen. Mike Shirkey decided that the Convention of States movement is so important that his committee must consider it even in the middle of the COVID-19 crisis.

Our team of volunteers has been working tirelessly to advance the resolution, and Speaker of the House Lee Chatfield is one of our strongest champions.

Mark Meckler, President of COS Action, will also be there to help get it across the finish line.

We believe Michigan could be the 16th state to call the first-ever Article V Convention of States. The three Republicans and two Democrats in the committee will decide whether to advance the Convention of States Resolution to the full Senate, and we need your help to make sure they vote YES.

If you live in Michigan, it's crucial that you contact your Senator ASAP and voice your support for SJR L.

You can contact your senator quickly and easily by clicking here.

If you don't live in Michigan, you can still help! Sign the Convention of States Petition below to tell your state legislators that you support the Convention of States movement, or click here to donate to the cause.

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:

Thank you so much for your service to the people of our district.
