Meet Virginia's Newest District Captain

Published in Blog on November 07, 2022 by Paul Renda

I never saw myself as an activist. in 2019 as I was readying for retirement, the last thing I was planning was to become a grass roots volunteer for Convention of States. Not that I was disinterested in politics.

I have been an ardent spectator of politics since my days as a Vietnam War protester back in high school in New York City. Over the years, thanks to the coaching of my father and uncle, my views became more politically conservative.

Several years of living in Europe and President Reagan’s leadership finally molded my conservative views.

I am an unabashed American. I know that, although not by any means perfect, America is the world’s last best hope.

For any life path or career you choose, and have the talent to perform, you cannot do better than in the USA. In my opinion, “The American Dream” is the engine that keeps us going. I aim to keep it that way for our posterity.

Like many of us, I see storm clouds.

Although we have elected many fine (and some less fine) statesman why is our debt ballooning? Why is it so difficult to start a business? Why is it that the federal government is so overbearing?

It is so evident to me that the underlying problem is structural, and that Convention of States is the only viable long-term solution.

My decision to become an activist (I kind of like the ring to that word) stems from my desire to serve.

I am content to be a foot soldier. I intend to begin this journey using whatever talents I have (as well as my new-found free time) to serve my fellow Americans in any way that I can.

Thus, I am now a District Captain for Convention of States Virginia.

If you haven’t done so already, please take a little time to read up on COS. If you’ve got some free time, join in!

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
