Meet new District Captain Eugene Wordehoff

Published in Blog on January 21, 2021 by Dana Cosley

Collier County has a new District Captain for Convention of States Florida.

Eugene Wordehoff comes to us bearing ideas and strategies that we can all utilize to make our grassroots activism meaningful and productive.

Last Fourth of July, Eugene travelled to Rapid City, South Dakota. Among the sights and memorials, he found himself at the Turning Point USA table viewing materials about the Convention of States Project.

He didn't have to think it over for long, because he knew it was the only way out of the country's problem. Ever since he signed up, Eugene has sought to uncover which paths would lead to substantial and meaningful participation as a volunteer.

Already impressed by the Convention of States website, its online university, and related materials, Eugene set out to determine what he could do within his district. Although Florida has already passed the COS resolution, volunteers are still needed to educate the public and grow our support, as the resolution makes its way through the other states.

As an active member of numerous Republican committees and fellowships, Eugene knows that first and foremost there is a need for greater awareness of Article V and the Convention of States Project. Many did not know much about this constitutional solution!

After a few months of brainstorming the best ways to contribute to the project and propel it forward, Eugene drafted a form letter and flyer to introduce himself and the Convention of States Project. He mailed them out to a list of over 200 elected Collier County and Florida state officials that he had compiled.

Next, he created a list of volunteer roles and recurring activities, such as hosting COS tables at venues, monthly socials, and developing a local newsletter to update his district's 140 volunteers on a regular basis.

According to Eugene, a button and some flyers are all COS volunteers really need to make an impact with the public. This is a low pressure, high result method!

Eugene emphasizes that the current representatives in party networks and in the Florida House are influencers with great power to get our country back to where it needs to be: by the people, for the People.

And we're holding the compass.
