Palm Beach has a new District Captain

Published in Blog on December 28, 2020 by Dana Cosley

Meet Florida's new Convention of States District Captain, Dorothy Logan of Palm Beach County (House District 86).

As an online academy and political science professor, Dorothy Logan is keen to emphasize that what should be and has been a typical unifier among us is the idea of freedom, which she finds to be linked to individual responsibility.

A person’s individual liberty is no less and no more important than another person's. Liberty comes with a sense of one’s own responsibility for their place and actions in this world.

Dorothy began teaching college students in 2001. To her astonishment, students did not have an adequate level of civic knowledge. Many could not even name the founders of the United States.

"Are there any free thinkers left?," she would wonder, as many of her university juniors and seniors struggled to understand the power each individual truly possessed. By noting the students and others' lack of understanding of what an individual can conceive of and do, Dorothy says she forewarns of the impending loss of our collective rights when our individual rights are obscured or otherwise stifled and suppressed.

She believes the time is ripe to look at the states' power versus the federal powers and what we as a people of a state can work towards sustaining. The time is ideal to get to know the people in her state legislature, to review the principles and policies of a candidate, get a better feel for the culture, and use the Constitution as a vehicle to promote essential and relevant ideas.

There is a pervasive sense that the policies as they are being written and applied have been turned against us, and it is most evident in the application of governance in some of the country's most resilient and dependable cities.

As one of her own professors taught her, one can determine how free a society is by noting how free people are to dissent. A foreign policy analyst in D.C. whom she assists defines freedom as being a product of civil society.

With her intelligence, drive, and zeal, Dorothy contributes truth, logic, and common sense to the greater whole as she regularly directs her own input towards her environment. Convention of States is the latest environment to receive her input, and her new district is certain to benefit from that. She strives to create freedom-learning events and to build relationships as educators.

One of the missions in Florida is to build a District Captain team in the 120 House Districts. Find out if you have a team or your district needs a team leader.
