Our federal officials lack conviction. The Afghanistan debacle has clarified that fact, but Washington hasn't been governed based on principle for a long time.
As Mark Meckler explained during a recent Young America's Foundation event, even federal accountants have failed to be governed by any principles.
"Do you know that the federal government actually has no standards by which they do accounting?" he asked.
It's true. The federal government does not use Generally Accepted Principles (GAP) of accounting, which means they can spend our money in any way they want.
The lack of principle doesn't stop with the Treasury Department. Federal politicians will never vote to limit their own power or tenure in office.
"Why do people want to go to Washington, D.C., forever?" Mark asked. "It's fun! Everybody tells you how wonderful you are once you're elected. You can make the American people do whatever you want."
