Meckler at CPAC: judge people in politics by their friends and their enemies

Published in Blog on August 04, 2022 by Brianna Kraemer

Convention of States President Mark Meckler spoke to a large audience on Thursday night at CPAC in Dallas, Texas, where he advised listeners to contemplate political figures by who they associate themselves with.

“I think you can judge people in politics very well by their friends and their enemies,” Meckler said. “I think Donald Trump made the right enemies, don't you think so?”

Turning to the Convention of States movement, Meckler pointed out the organization’s enemies, who come directly from the George Soros-funded group Common Clause, including Planned Parenthood, La Raza, and Daily Kos.

“Hillary Clinton personally has spoken out against Convention of States. I'm very proud of that," he added.

On the other side – in support of the Convention of States Project – is every nationally known conservative figure in the U.S., including Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Ben Shapiro, Glenn Beck and Steve Deace, Meckler explained.

Other Convention of States endorsers include Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul and Ben Carson.

Article V is the ONLY way to truly address the out of control federal government. No matter who controls Congress or the White House, these deep-rooted issues will never permanently disappear without the proper solution.

Already, 19 states have filed the COS Application, which means we’re halfway to the required 34-state threshhold. Tell you state legislators that you support Convention of States by signing the petition.

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention for proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington, DC.

I support the Convention of States Project; a national effort to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of Article V Convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here:

I ask that you support the Convention of States Project and consider becoming a co-sponsor of the resolution. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have: or (540) 441-7227.

Thank you so much for your service to the people of our district.

Respectfully, [Your Name]
