Almost 2,000 “Washington Is Broken” brochures were given to Americans upon request. They were curious to know more about Convention of States. West Salem, WI is a bedroom community in the greater LaCrosse area of just over 5,000 residents.
Many of the residents work in the heavily Democratic city of LaCrosse, WI. LaCrosse County Democratic Party was float number 60. The Republican Party did not have a float in the parade. Despite the city of LaCrosse hosting the Wisconsin State Republican Convention a mere 14 days later in June.
Ernie Thackeray District Captain Tomah, WI was surprised about the number of brochures. He anticipated less than half that number would be used. Marlene Tolkinen WI DC Team and West Salem resident, said our intensions are for each person that received a brochure, to go to the Convention of States website and learn more. Marlene is amazed more Americans do not know much about Article V of the Constitution and Convention of States Action.
June Dairy Days is held the first weekend of June each year. This year that means Saturday June 3. This is the 52nd annual June Dairy Days and for many in the area it is the unofficial kickoff to summer. The parade had almost 80 floats this year. So, it is a big parade.
The LaCrosse County Convention of States has attracted a number of volunteers in the area. Marlene credits Ernie’s Informational Meetings with educating them, and encouraging the group to grow. Betty Stoltenberg WI DC Team has used local newspapers and media to advertise the meetings.
One parade watcher added “Awesome parade (kids leave with lots of candy), good music, yummy ice cream, and all around a good time! Look forward to June Dairy Days every year!”
With organizers like Marlene Tolkinen, Ernie Thackeray, and Betty Stoltenberg we understand why. Great job LaCrosse County Convention of States Team!
