FEMA “should not exist.”
That was Mark Meckler’s message about the federal government’s disastrous response to Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
It may sound like a harsh message, but the truth of the matter is that “our Constitution does not authorize broad-scale emergency management,” Meckler argued. “This was not how our federal government was designed.”
“Federal Emergency Management [Agency] is, obviously, a disaster,” he said. “It’s been a disaster for a long time. But I would argue, fundamentally, at its core, that’s because it should not exist.”
And why didn’t the Framers allow for government programs like FEMA in the Constitution? Because they knew that top-heavy government programs tend to become slow, ineffective, and “rife with corruption.”
So, if we are not meant to turn to Washington for help in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene and as we await Milton, how should we respond? Mark Meckler answers in the video below.
