In an unprecedented verdict, former United States President and 2024 White House hopeful Donald Trump was found guilty by a New York jury of all 34 felony charges in his hush-money trial. Accused of falsifying business records and violating campaign finance laws, the now-convicted felon awaits his sentencing, which is expected to occur by June 13 and may result in the presumptive GOP nominee being placed in jail.
“This was a rigged, disgraceful trial,” alleged Trump after the verdict was announced on Thursday. “The real verdict is going to be November 5, by the people, and they know what happened here, and everybody knows what happened here.”
The former president, who famously set out to “drain the swamp,” has often been perceived by his supporters as the target of a Deep State-sponsored “witch hunt,” contributing to widespread distrust in the validity of the ruling. His campaign has long argued that a guilty verdict will not hurt his reelection bid but bolster his momentum. Moreover, they have warned that a criminal ruling will result in the increased degradation of the American justice system.
“This is probably the greatest travesty of justice we have ever seen in the United States of America,” reacted Convention of States President Mark Meckler. “It creates a constitutional crisis…. This is not what America looks like…. If they can do it to Trump, they can do it to me, they can do it to you, they can do it to all of us.”
Meckler urged every conservative district attorney to respond in like manner to Trump’s opponent, President Joe Biden, noting that while conservatives did not make these rules, they now have no choice but to play by them.
“Anybody at a high level in the Democratic Party needs to be targeted with the same kind of lawfare that they brought to bear against Donald Trump,” he contended. “We have to fight fire with fire…. I want us to stay legal, but I want us to fight ferociously.”

While commentator Ben Shapiro disagreed that Republicans should not prosecute Democrats in retaliation, arguing that most Americans are sick of the politicization of our courts, he pointed out that “if Joe Biden does not win this next election, he will undoubtedly be prosecuted…. He is now running to keep himself and his son out of jail.”
He also agreed that the verdict is “a travesty of justice. This case was a joke from the very beginning.... I think the backlash on this is going to be extraordinary because this is so obviously a manufactured case, so obviously a stupid case that has nothing to do with Donald Trump’s supposed violations of law. I don’t think the American people are going to stand for this.”
As Americans on both sides of the aisle grapple to wrap their minds around this historic verdict, one thing is clear—both parties view the other as a formidable threat to democracy and justice, raising the stakes in the upcoming election tremendously. We desperately need a radical, bipartisan solution before the country tears apart at the seams.
