Local Governments Rise to the Occasion

Published in Blog on July 11, 2021 by John Green

Our federal government is clearly out of control.

Hardly a day goes by in which there isn’t at least one news story about our government attempting to suppress our natural rights. The federal government is attacking our freedom of speech and assembly. The Supreme Court has refused to defend our right to free and fair elections.

Nowhere has this continued assault on our freedoms been more apparent than in the government’s attempts to curtail our right to bear arms. While the Second Amendment is worded in terms of a right to bear arms, its purpose is to codify our right to self-defense–both from personal assault and government tyranny. Put simply, the Second Amendment is our guarantee that the government can never turn our military against us.

In their wisdom, our Founding Fathers granted power to our state and local governments as a check against federal overreach. While the federal government continues its attempts to curtail our right of self-defense, state and local governments are stepping up to protect those rights.

We now have 21 states that have declared themselves Constitutional Carry states. In addition, 1,137 counties have declared themselves Second Amendment sanctuary counties. They will not cooperate with federal curtailment of our right to bear arms. Some have even passed legislation to arrest any federal agents attempting to confiscate firearms in their jurisdiction.

Between state and local legislation, at least 1,930 US counties are now covered by some form of Second Amendment protection. That works out to a whopping 61% of all counties in the United States.

It seems our local and state governments still believe the Constitution means what it says and are defending it--not against foreign enemies, but against domestic enemies.

That's why the Convention of States Idaho team is using Article V of the Constitution in order to save our great nation. The Article V convention process is a peaceful method to restore the balance of power, and it empowers the people--working with their state legislators--to secure our nation's future.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
