President Donald Trump's campaign just released its agenda for the president's second term, and it includes many goals and objectives that will appeal to liberty-loving Americans.
One section in particular should excite anyone concerned about the overreach and abuse of power in the federal government:
DRAIN THE SWAMP
-
Pass Congressional Term Limits
-
End Bureaucratic Government Bullying of U.S. Citizens and Small Businesses
-
Expose Washington’s Money Trail and Delegate Powers Back to People and States
Each of these items would go a long way towards returning power to the states and the people, and making Washington, D.C., fairer and more accountable.
But how will President Trump accomplish these goals?
Imposing term limits on Congress requires a constitutional amendment. Do you think Congress will vote to term-limit itself?
We don't think so, either.
Fortunately, an Article V Convention of States is called and controlled by the states, and has the power to propose a constitutional amendment limiting the terms of office for federal officials.
Ending bureaucratic bullying is another great objective, and the president has done much to roll back the bureaucratic state.
But none of these changes are permanent. The president's successor could just as easily reinstate many overbearing federal regulations, and the American people would be right back where they started.
An Article V Convention of States can propose constitutional amendments that permanently limit the power, scope, and jurisdiction of the federal government -- including federal agencies.
Finally, delegating power back to the states and the people would unleash the true potential of our nation and economy, but the Supreme Court has been ruling for years that the federal government has near-unlimited power over state laws.
We can't overturn those decisions without constitutional amendments.
Fortunately, a Convention of States can propose constitutional amendments that undo the last 100 years of judicial activism. These amendments that restore our federal system and finally balance power between Washington, the states, and the people.
President Trump knows that the American people should make their own decisions -- they should govern themselves. His agenda is seeking to return power to the people, but he can't do it alone.
He needs the people and the states to take his swamp-draining agenda into their own hands. Article V of the Constitution allows us to do just that.
Already, over 4 million Americans have voiced their support for a Convention of States, and 15 of the needed 34 states have called to hold a convention. Our agenda seeks to propose amendments that limit the power of the federal government, impose fiscal restraints on Congress, and mandate term limits for federal officials.
If you really want to drain the swamp for good, a Convention of States is the best way to do it.
