Let’s All Act Like Americans: A Letter to the Other Side

Published in Blog on September 06, 2021 by Cynthia Kisby

Dear Friend (Neighbor, Sister, Brother, Co-worker…),

I miss our sense of harmony and common purpose. I believe we still hold the same values, but our bonds have been broken, and we’ve been derailed by smoke and mirrors.

Sometimes things don’t turn out as planned. We think we know where our vote will lead, but for a variety of reasons, the outcome is not what we hoped. We were expecting a breath of fresh air but only see more of the same -- dissent and opposition.

Admitting a mistake can feel like the end of the world as we know it. That’s too extreme. Life goes on. It’s what we do going forward that restores our feelings of self-worth.
When we vote for a representative, we are placing our trust in that person to do what they proposed during their campaign. Unfortunately, political trade-offs and getting re-elected become more important.

Understand that political party labels no longer mean what they once did. When voting for ideas associated with a party, take a close look at actions and results, not words and promises.

This is when a reality-check, if not a do-over, is in order.

To get back on track we have to be very clear about our goals and do an honest assessment of our current situation. Are we acting like the freedom-loving Americans that our founding fathers imagined?

American Not so much - American
Individual responsibility Government vaccine mandates and lock downs
Individual property rights Government eviction ban takes our property
One nation under God Separate identities fighting each other. Situational morals = don’t judge me.
Secure borders with citizen voting rights Anyone can vote or get benefits. Undocumented aliens dropped off in unsuspecting communities.
Rules and laws are valued Shoplifting is OK. Defund the police.
Freedom Tyranny

Why not live up to our American image of strong, independent, resilient winners? Our Florida governor and legislators do! They demonstrate that we are not wimpy victims and losers. No one has the right to tell us we are oppressed.

Signing the petition for a Convention of States is a message to Congress that We the People want to return to America’s founding values and principles as described in our original constitution. Article V of the U.S. Constitution provides a way for citizens to work with their local legislators to control federal excess.

Florida has already passed a resolution asking for an Article V convention, but we need to help others along. I hope that you can see Florida as a positive example of better outcomes based on term limits and a balanced budget.

Let's get back together as supporters of American ideals.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
