Leftist scare tactics undermine Virginia Legislators' unique role in calling Convention of States

Published in Blog on February 09, 2023 by Laurie Wheeler

Crossover Day is here in Virginia, where the delegates and senators transfer their respective passed legislations to the other chamber for consideration.

What happened to the Convention of States resolutions in Virginia: HJ 457 and SJ 235?

If you check the previous links, you will see that the legislators basically took action to not take action, leading to the resolutions not passing in either chamber.

Why? Opposition scare tactics originated by George Soros spread seeds of fear throughout the General Assembly.

Meanwhile, there are 31 trillion reasons why Virginia legislators should have voted Yes on Convention of States.

Instead, opposition groups in Virginia spread lies, especially about the 2nd Amendment.

Contrast the opposition groups with our long list of endorsers at Convention of States.

For example, part of our Legal Board of Reference is Charles J. Cooper, who is a founding member and chairman of Cooper & Kirk, PLLC.

A member of the Reagan Administration, Mr. Cooper has argued before the Supreme Court, and he spent much of his career defending constitutional rights as a top lawyer for the National Rifle Association.

Long advocating a constitutional amendment to solve the real threat to the 2nd Amendment, Cooper explained the truth to a COS crowd of volunteers in 2019.

That audience represents a small portion of the grassroots army that COS is building in each state to preserve liberty.

This COS grassroots army will be known by future generations for endeavoring to preserve liberty.

And it is a COS army that will make the difference.

Would you like to leave a legacy like this to your children and grandchildren? Here's how:

For Virginia to win the fight we need more boots on the ground. Especially, we need more District Captains (apply here) to recruit, welcome, and educate other volunteers in their local area.

Then the District Captain can inform the in-district volunteers of when to be in attendance and have their voices heard at committee hearings and floor votes.

Since it is election year in Virginia, we'll be asking each candidate in Virginia to complete a survey on where each of them stands regarding Convention of States. Stay tuned for that project.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:

Thank you so much for your service to the people of our district.
