Leaking classified information proves (again) that our politicians care more about politics than people

Published in Blog on September 01, 2020 by Article V Patriot

The mainstream media is largely ignoring this story, but it should be a bombshell report from Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe.

Ratcliffe claims that mere minutes after briefing members of Congress on election interference from Russia and China, classified information from his briefing was leaked to the press.

He asked lawmakers not to disclose any of the classified information from the briefing, but "within minutes of that one of those briefings ending, a number of members of Congress went to a number of different publications and leaked classified information.”

He said the leaks were “for political purposes” to create what he said is a false narrative “that somehow Russia is a greater national security threat than China.”

If our elected officials truly cared about national security, election security, or the security of the American people, they would put their politics aside and do what's right. Instead, they run to their favorite journalists every time they receive a piece of news that might hurt their political opponents.

And this problem isn't limited to one side of the aisle. Former acting Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Richard Grenell told Sean Hannity that Republican lawmakers did the same thing under President Obama.

"This is a problem of Washington, D.C., and politicians," Grenell said. "This is not unique to any one party. We need to solve this by having people who come from the outside, who come into Washington with new fresh eyes and change bureaucracies."

Grenell is right that the problems in Washington must be solved from the outside, but once those "outsiders" enter the swamp, they're eaten by the monsters before they can make any significant changes.

We need a better solution -- a solution not driven by "good" politicians in D.C. but by the people and the states.

A Convention of States is called by the states under the authority granted to them in Article V of the Constitution. This article allows the states to propose constitutional amendments that can limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, impose fiscal restraints on Congress, and mandate term limits for federal officials.

These amendments, once ratified by 38 states, will sound a powerful wake-up call to our politicians in D.C.: "You work for the American people, not your own political interests."

Members of Congress believe they can't be held accountable for their actions. An Article V Convention of States is the ultimate accountability tool, and it's high time we used it.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
