The Biden-Harris administration is shifting gears after their "Build Back Better" boondoggle failed to garner enough support in Congress.
Now, they're looking to take over the nation's elections.
In an interview with CBS' "Face the Nation" host Margaret Brennan, Vice President Kamala Harris warned that the U.S. would no longer be a "role model" if Congress refuses to pass their new "voting rights" legislation.
"We have been a role model saying, 'You can see this and aspire to this and reject autocracies and autocratic leadership,'" Harris said in a pre-recorded interview with Brennan, which aired on Sunday. "Right now, we're about to take ourselves off the map as a role model if we let people destroy one of the most important pillars of a democracy, which is free and fair elections."
Don't be fooled by Harris' rhetoric. As Convention of States Action President Mark Meckler said of the Democrats' previous "voting rights" bill, H.R. 1, a federal takeover of the state election process would be nothing less than the death of democracy:
It’s not hyperbole to say that the bill represents a complete federal takeover of the state election process and a usurpation of the states’ most basic constitutional responsibilities. In fact, the better title for H.R. 1 should be the "Death of Democracy Act."
If you cut through the jargon and legalese, the Death of Democracy Act would mandate mail-in balloting in all states, strip voter ID laws in 35 states, remove the ability for states to manage their own voting rolls, and register non-citizens to vote.
Not stopping there, the bill would create a commission of unelected federal officials called the "Commission to Protect Democrat Institutions." If that title reminds you of old-fashioned Communist speak you’d be right, the commission will have the power require judges to testify regarding the rulings they issue.
As the Heritage Foundation concluded, this commission "would be given the authority to compel judges to testify and justify their legal decisions, threatening their independent judgement and subjecting them to political pressure and harassment."
As Biden shifts his focus to "voting rights," We the People must recommit to the only solution to this kind of tyrannical federal overreach: an Article V Convention of States.
A Convention of States is called and controlled by the states and has the power to propose constitutional amendments that limit the power, scope, and jurisdiction of the federal government. Amendments can include restrictions on all aspects of federal power -- including those that relate to elections.
With these amendments in place, Harris and her big-government allies will never again be able to threaten the integrity and fairness of the election process.
Ultimately, as Mark explains, we have a simple choice to make:
Do we want decisions made at the state and local level, where we know the politicians and they live in our neighborhoods and communities? Or do we want to be ruled by D.C. insiders and federal bureaucrats who hold average Americans in contempt and have rigged the system to eliminate accountability?
