Join Us : Hearing on Wednesday for Criminal Prosecution SB 528

Published in Blog on January 22, 2024 by Laurie Wheeler

Many thanks to Senator Glen Sturtevant of Senate District 12, who has filed not only SB 527 but also SB 528 for the 2024 legislative session of the General Assembly.

Whereas SB 527 details the procedures for selecting and managing Virginia delegates to an Article V Convention, SB 528 details the criminal prosecution for rogue delegates.

SB 528 goes to the Senate Courts of Jusitice Committee on Wednesday, January 24, 2024.

Here’s how you can participate either in-person or virtually:

1 – Sign up here to join our team in Richmond when SB 528 comes to the Senate Courts of Justice Committee Floor:
When: Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at 12:30pm
Where: in the cafeteria on the first floor of the General Assembly building
Why: After the morning’s general session ends, we will walk together to the Senate chamber to support SB 528.

2 - If you cannot attend in person, click this link to sign up to give virtual testimony in favor of SB 528. (Virtual participants must sign up to speak one half hour before the committee meeting begins. Look for the Courts of Justice Committee for January 24.)

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:

Thank you so much for your service to the people of our district.
