Newly-elected State Senator Jake Merrick, representing District 22, is a self-described "Bible-believing, Constitution-defending, free market capitalist who wants limited government and maximum freedom for the people!" He and his wife, Nicole, are parents to two beautiful daughters.
Jake believes first and foremost that policy won't change our country but only prayer and a change in the hearts of the people.
He believes we urgently need to take rapid action to protect our rights as a state. While he thinks nullification has a place in that goal, he also supports the Convention of States and the amendments proposed through Oklahoma's Senate Resolution 23 (sponsored by Senator Standridge) which just recently passed out of the Senate and House Rules Committees and passed the Senate floor vote. We're waiting now for the final House floor vote.
The resolution, named “The United States Senator, Dr. Tom Coburn Resolution of 2021,” is affectionately referred to as the "Dr. Tom Resolution" and calls for a convention of the states limited to proposing amendments to the United States Constitution that call for a balanced budget, limited power and jurisdiction of the government, and term limits for federal officials and members of Congress.
Jake's promise is to legislate with the Bible and the Constitution as his guide, and as he says, "I will do everything in my power to promote We the People as the primary voice and beneficiary of legislation passed in Oklahoma."
We can count on Jake's support for a Convention of States!
