Americans are angry. A dwindling economy, high inflation, an unsecured southern border, staggering rates of crime, and rampant political corruption are plaguing the “Shining Star” of the world. The total lack of criminal justice against the wealthy, politically powerful, or politically influential, is bringing Americans to a boiling point. The response to this same level of sustained chaos in Brazil was the rise of mob justice.
Human nature detests a lack of control over their destiny, which is occurring in America. If this control cannot or will not be provided by those we have elected to provide that sense of control, then American citizens will eventually find a way to regain control of their destiny.
Using the pursuit of control, as sufficient justification for vigilantism, America could very well go down the same road as Brazil. Brazilians believe that “a good criminal is a dead criminal,” which is acceptable to those Brazilians who have watched their friends and family ripped away by crime. Will America become another Brazil, or will America find the means to rectify the wrong being imposed upon our citizens before it’s too late?
The two enduring problems that have undermined our political system are the immense influence of special interest groups in politics and partisan polarization. These two major problems compound one another, creating a vicious cycle of distrust and dysfunction. Addressing them with urgency and conviction is crucial to restoring Americans’ faith in our Constitutional Republic.
Deepening partisan divisions have distorted political and civic debate, encouraged extremism, and led to governmental dysfunction, often preventing the country from addressing shared problems. Weaknesses in our electoral system, such as partisan corruption, fraud, and disinformation by news media, feed polarization by encouraging radically partisan positions that damage any sense of common national identity.
Our Constitutional Republic is sick, if not terminally ill. We have dismantled the American Republic as established by our Founding Fathers and reconstructed it on a corrupt form of governance. Our nation’s situation is grave, the threats are formidable, and our hope of escape without some social upheaval is in question.
We still speak of our country as a Constitutional Republic, but in reality, it bears only an external and superficial resemblance to the Republic as it existed in 1787. We have abandoned the fundamental principle upon which our Constitutional Republic was built. Escaping the crushing debt, taxes, and unbelievable infusion of treason in our government, cannot occur so long as we continue to ignore our nation’s deterioration and stand by doing nothing.
There is no easy answer. Justice plays a precarious part in the struggle and oppression of mistreated citizens, but the problem is that poor people become collateral damage to a failing system instilled by a corrupt elite. If our government does not change, we Americans will have no political power to hold politicians responsible. What comes of this predicament is a culture of riots, crime, and no trust in our judicial system to assure due process. When that becomes a norm, no one is safe. No one.
There is a solution being championed by Convention of States Action.
Convene a Convention of States as allowed by Article V of the Constitution with restricted authority to propose only amendments that will: 1) impose fiscal restraints on the federal government; 2) limit its power and jurisdiction; 3) impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.
Please sign the COS petition in support of calling for a Convention of States.
We the People can do this; we together can return our Republic to what our Founding Fathers intended this great nation to be, free to choose our own destiny.
