Opponents to SJ2 proclaim a convention of the states held under the purview of Article V of the Constitution of the United States of America would lead to a runaway convention mirroring their claim that the convention of states held during the summer of 1787 was illegitimate.
It cannot escape a keen observer, that the language which they use condemns the mission of the general convention of 1787 and now condemns the article provided for amending it.
To me, it appears impossible to reconcile all their barking to a sincere attachment to an “illegitimate” constitution. Rather, it reveals a deep predetermined opposition to our Constitution and any attempts to preserve it.
What other mindset would cause them to reject historical facts and continue to stand fixed on a fabricated fable meant to render the American spirit inert?
Our Framers deserve a full exoneration once and for all.
George Washington, the president of the Philadelphia Convention of 1787 and America’s first president, had this to say:
I wish the constitution, which is offered, had been made more perfect; but I sincerely believe it is the best that could be obtained at this time. And, as a constitutional door is opened for amendment hereafter, the adoption of it, under the present circumstances of the Union, is in my opinion desirable.
James Madison
Whatever may be the judgement pronounced on the competency of the architects of the Constitution, or whatever may be the destiny of the edifice prepared by them, I feel it a duty to express my profound and solemn conviction . . . that there never was an assembly of men, charged with a great and arduous trust, who were more pure in their motives, or more exclusively or anxiously devoted to the object committed to them.
Alexander Hamilton
We can only propose and recommend; the power of ratifying or rejecting is still in the States.
The Ultimate Question
Are we are committed to preserving and defending the liberty of our country with the provision provided in the Constitution, or will we continue to postpone the burden to a period when circumstances are more grievously felt by our grandchildren?
According to our Framers, the state legislatures are to be vigilant guardians of the rights of the citizens against encroachments from the federal government. They are to be constantly awake to the conduct of the national rulers and be at the ready if anything improper appears.
And they are to sound the alarm to the people.
Liberty requires not only our serious and sustained attention to thrive, it requires action.
We are asking you to stand with this historic movement to preserve the most magnificent country on the face of the earth.
I urge you to stand with Senator Tom McGillvray and our Framers and vote yes for SJ2, the Convention of States resolution held under the purview of Article V of the U.S. Constitution, which was honorably ratified by We the People.
