As he so often does, Convention of States Action president and co-founder Mark Meckler said it best: "Our argument is that liberty never expires."
He will be in Austin, Texas, to double down on that proposition, as the House State Affairs Committee hears testimony regarding House Joint Resolution 98, the COS application to call an Article V convention that does not contain a sunset clause.
COS LIVE will have coverage of the hearing on March 26. Preliminary indications are that the committee will not be taking up HJR 98 until sometime in the afternoon. Once HJR 98 is up, you can watch by clicking below:
The committee is scheduled to hear testimony in support of the resolution from Meckler and Rep. Cody Vasut, who is chief sponsor of the resolution and a recent guest on COS at Home. In addition, Texas Public Policy Foundation's Jose Melendez, who interviewed Meckler on a podcast earlier this year will offer testimony.
While Texas became the eleventh state to call for a limited-purpose Article V convention on May 4, 2017, the resolution that passed contained a sunset -- or expiration -- clause. That clause becomes operative this calendar year. Passage of HJR 98 eliminates that possibility.
Be sure to watch this important hearing and the compelling testimony in support of it on March 26.
