The anti-Article V lobby in Wisconsin is terrified.
After our overwhelming victory in the Wisconsin State House, those who want to maintain the status quo in D.C. are doing everything they can to keep Wisconsin from becoming the 16th state to pass the Convention of States Resolution.
A recent article published by the far-left group Center for Media and Democracy claims that the grassroots-led Convention of States movement is "radical," and that we're calling for a "constitutional convention."
The piece is mostly conspiracy theories about corporate cabals, the Koch brothers, and the American Legislative Exchange Council, but we wanted to highlight it because it proves that we're on the right track in Wisconsin. When radical leftist groups are so scared of a Convention of States that they publish a 1,500-word hit piece to try to defame our efforts, we know we're doing something right.
The Convention of States movement is not, nor ever was, about restricting civil rights, as the article claims. The Convention of States Resolution calls for amendments that reduce the power of the federal government, impose term limits on federal officials, and force Congress to be fiscally responsible.
What's more -- and the CMD conveniently fails to mention this point -- a Convention of States cannot amend the Constitution. It's a meeting of the states at which amendments can be proposed. All amendments have to be ratified by 38 states, which means any amendments that come close to restricting civil rights won't stand a chance.
Our opponents know that when we're successful, they'll lose their grip on the centralized power in Washington, D.C. So, they launch unfounded attacks to try to scare state legislators into falling in line.
But lies and conspiracy theories can't stop the Article V movement. When We the People unite around limiting the power of the federal government, nothing can stand in our way.
