Our Convention of States Hawaii display table is always one of the biggest splashes of patriotic color in the entire exhibition hall and we're not shy about showing it off!
The past 4 years of working Convention of States display tables at gun shows, shooting events, conventions, and fairs has shown me something interesting that was verified this past weekend:
The number of petition signatures collected at an event has less to do with how busy the event is and everything to do with how many Convention of States volunteers are actively working it.
It sounds obvious, but here's what I see: when we expect a busy event and schedule accordingly we somehow get the same number of petitions signed even when that event is not well attended!
That's what happened this past weekend, Sept 28 ad 29, at the Hawaii Historic Arms Assn Great Guns Show in Honolulu. We expected huge crowds that didn't show up, yet our signature count still reached our highest rate of collection—over 100 per day!
Why? Because we staffed our display table with as many volunteers as we could, and kept actively working to collect signatures regardless of crowd size or table traffic.
'Working the crowd' regardless of size or traffic is the key to successful petition signature collection.
Working in front of our display, we collected 210 hard copy petition signatures, 29 saying they'll "volunteer" for COS. While not a record, these results are the third highest petition totals for this event which we've attended twice a year since 2017.
Two new features at this event were a refreshed 'CONAN' exhibit center table and writing out short notes on pre-addressed postcards to Hawaii state legislators.
