Governors protecting their citizens when Biden refuses to

Published in Blog on September 28, 2021 by Article V Patriot

President Joe Biden's announcement earlier this month to restrict access to monoclonal antibody COVID-19 treatments was a bald-faced attempt to punish Republican governors.

No governor had complained about a shortage of the treatments, but the Biden administration stepped in anyway to take control of the treatment's distribution and restrict access for big, conservative states like Texas and Florida.

Unfortunately for the Biden administration, America's governors were not so easily dissuaded. Both Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Florida Governor Ron Desantis have announced their intention to go around the president and procure doses of the life-saving treatment on their own.

The mainstream media is having a conniption, but the American people aren't surprised. Our state governments have always been a last bastion of defense against government overreach, and Govs. Abbott and Desantis are simply playing the role outlined by our Founders.

But that federalist structure is under attack. Over the last 100 years, Washington has grown in power while the states have shrunk. Today, the president can get on national news and announce an assault on our governors and expect to get away with it. Many states have become little more than regional offices for the federal government, and Washington controls everything from education to healthcare to the environment.

It's time for the states to stand up and re-balance power between the states and Washington. They hold the ultimate authority in our constitutional system of governments, but they have yet to use their most powerful tool: an Article V Convention of States.

A Convention of States is called and controlled by the states and has the power to propose constitutional amendments. These amendments can reverse the federal government's expansion by clarifying the portions of the Constitution the Supreme Court has used to expand national power.

For example, the Court has reinterpreted the Commerce Clause to allow Congress and the Deep State to control all commerce. The Founders only intended the national government to control interstate commerce, i.e., commerce among states. Amendments proposed at a Convention could clarify that limitation on federal power, which would instantly remove federal bureaucrats from many areas of our economy.

That's just one example of the ways a Convention of States could restrict federal power, limit federal jurisdiction, and end federal overreach. There are many others, and it's time our states joined together and asserted their power over tyrants in D.C.

Fifteen states have already called for a Convention of States (including Florida and Texas!). To join the over five million volunteers and supporters around the country, sign the Convention of States Petition below!

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
