Governor Northam is at it again

Published in Blog on July 31, 2020 by Shawn Fleetwood

Just when you thought the lockdowns were gone, they pop right back up again.

This week, Governor Northam of Virginia announced that the Hampton Roads area of the state will be facing new lockdown measures due to the rising number of coronavirus cases in the region.

According to Patch.com, these new restrictions will include "ending alcohol sales and on-site alcohol consumption after 10 p.m.; closing restaurants by midnight; limiting indoor dining to 50 percent capacity at restaurants, food courts, breweries, wineries and distilleries; and banning social gatherings of more than 50 people indoors or outdoors."

These new restrictions address alcohol consumption, because Northam says that he believes the consumption of alcohol "can change a person's judgement and their attention to social distancing."

What politicians like Northam consistently fail to realize is that the coronavirus is going to spread no matter how many restrictions are in place. In fact, lockdown measures have been shown to be largely ineffective.

In addition, the spike in new cases in the Hampton Roads area is driven almost entirely by young people, according to The Virginian-Pilot. In other words, the spike is predominantly driven by people who have an extremely low-chance of dying from COVID-19.

Not to mention that according to the Virginia Department of Health, the seven-day moving average for the Commonwealth has been in a decline for weeks.

Needless to say, these restrictions implemented by Northam continue to ignore all basic science and data when it comes to the coronavirus.

It's time for citizens and patriots across the country to start pushing back on these unwarranted power grabs. The future of our country depends on it.

Head on over to OpentheStates.com to connect with your fellow citizens and help coordinate a movement to take back our country.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
