Foresights of the Forefathers

Published in Blog on August 30, 2021 by Dakota Windancer

Could you be ready to step up and take on a leadership role with the Florida Convention of States team? Think of the foresight of the forefathers of our country for a moment.

John Jay, who became our first Supreme Justice is quoted saying, “No power on earth has a right to take our property from us without our consent.”

James Madison served as a Colonel in Virginia’s fourth militia and later becoming our fourth President is quoted saying, “If tyranny and oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise as a foreign enemy.”

Alexander Hamilton served as an Assemblyman in the New York legislature also as a Lt. Colonel during the revolt and later became the new nation’s first Secretary of the Treasury. Hamilton is quoted as saying, “Those who stand for nothing, fall for everything.”

What these men have in common is that they were regular guys who saw that true patriots must take a stand for Liberty. Together, they drafted the Federalist papers that resulted in the ratification of today’s Constitution.

Throughout the essays contained in the Federalist Papers, each of these men warned of the nature of man and their propensities of courting the energies of greed and power lust.

We see these warnings today as proof of their prophetic insight. The Constitution was painstakingly drafted to include the Bill of Rights and Article Five-Convention of States as a safeguard against a tyrannical government.

Our Forefathers wanted We the People to have the last say in how we are governed and through Article Five of the Constitution, left us a way of preserving that noble intention. It is our time as American Patriots for becoming the like-minded statesmen that America desperately needs.

Now, more than ever, it is We the People’s time to step up and model for our servant leaders the virtues of prudence, justice, fortitude, and temperance.

We can emulate good statesmanship and put our faith into action by joining the Convention of States and rejoice in the flourishing of all its citizens.

Petition your state legislator

Almost everyone knows that our federal government is on a dangerous course. The unsustainable debt combined with crushing regulations on states and businesses is a recipe for disaster.

What is less known is that the Founders gave state legislatures the power to act as a final check on abuses of power by Washington, DC. Article V of the U.S. Constitution authorizes the state legislatures to call a convention to proposing needed amendments to the Constitution. This process does not require the consent of the federal government in Washington DC.

I support Convention of States; a national movement to call a convention under Article V of the United States Constitution, restricted to proposing amendments that will impose fiscal restraints on the federal government, limit its power and jurisdiction, and impose term limits on its officials and members of Congress.

I want our state to be one of the necessary 34 states to pass a resolution calling for this kind of an Article V convention. You can find a copy of the model resolution and the Article V Pocket Guide (which explains the process and answers many questions) here: https://conventionofstates.com/handbook_pdf

I ask that you support Convention of States and consider becoming a co-sponsor. Please respond to my request by informing the national COS team of your position, or sending them any questions you may have:
